U-Bahnstation Siemensdamm (U7) Berlin I Wettbewerb: 1. Preis I 2013
Subway station Siemensdamm (U7) Berlin I Competition: 1. Price I 2013
5 Large format photographs | Size : 2,5 m x 3,5 m The New Society for Fine Art has awarded the competition entry THE BALCONY PORTRAITS. THE BALCONY PORTRAITS are being exhibited in the subway station Siemensdamm at the moment. The Balcony Portraits draw attention to the balcony as a living space for people. It serves as a place for relaxing “after work”. The large format photographs show the typology of the balconies in the Ring Estate in Siemensstadt in Berlin, which has been classified as a UNESCO world heritage site since 2008. The balconies which have been photographed form one of the main characteristics of the single-storey apartments, which are organised in rows, in this social housing estate. The 1920s estate should contribute to the improvement of the living conditions and lifestyle of various social classes. The Balcony Portraits placards in the metro stations give a new structure to the place. The theme of the external space in an internal area creates an architectural confusion in the metro. |
