Alexandra Spiegel is a Berlin-based conceptual artist and architect.
She majored in architecture at the University of Fine Arts in Hamburg and the Berlin University of Arts, Wiel Arets, completing her studies of art in the class of visual culture studies Katharina Sieverding. She worked in Barcelona with EMBT Arquitectes, Adolf Krischanitz Architects located in Zurich and Vienna and Léon Wohlhage Architects in Berlin. A member of the Berlin Chamber of Architects, she is involved in the planning and implementation of buildings, is frequently invited to art exhibitions and to enter “Art in Architecture” competitions organised by the German government. From 2011 to 2015, she worked as a university lecturer and assistant professor.
Alexandra Spiegel runs an interdisciplinary studio for art and architecture. She works on a variety of planning and construction tasks in different scales, from large buildings to smaller objects. In addition to her architectural work, she offers expansive installations and artistic works which each relate to a specific spatial situation. She works with scientists, cultural professionals, architects, civil engineers, craftsmen and other specialists to achieve the best result for each project.
She deals in detail with urban and architectural space, the relationship between space and people, proportion, material, light, colour and object. Using architectural and artistic means and media, she explores spaces in all scales and combines the results into buildings, spatial installations or 2D and 3D objects. Topics of current research on architecture and architectural theory serve as a research pool for her conceptual artistic work.
